I understand why Sir David is down on humanity but like you I am more than optimistic that the Earth’s carrying capacity will sustain us through the balancing act that we will experience through the 21st century. If rising expectations in the Developing World lead to declining birth rates then our population should peak and then begin a steady drop in the latter part of the century. I suspect the number will approximate where we are today by century end with a redistribution of population changing the face of the Developed World forever.
